SUBJECT: 2018 DIVISION ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS PRESS CONFERENCE (DESSPC)
DATE: September 10,2018
1. To support and promote Campus Journalism
while at the same time improve the journalistic
skills of the students and promote responsible and free journalism as stated in
Section 1 of R.A. 7079, the Office through the Curiculum Implementation
Division
(CID), will conduct the 2018 Division Elementary and Secondary Schools
Press
Conference (DESSPC) on October 11-13, 2018 at Samar National School, Catbalogan
City.
2. The
theme for this year is “Fostering 21st Century Skills on Character-Based
Education
through Campus Journalism”.
3. The
2018 Division Elementary and Secondary Schools Press Conference (DESSPC)
aims to :
a.
demonstrate understanding of the importance of journalism by expressing it
through different journalism
endeavors and approaches;
b. provide a venue for an enriching leaning
experience for students interested in
journalism
as a career or those who intend to use the skills learned through
campus journalism to give them a
better edge in their chosen careers;
c. enhance
journalistic competencies through healthy and friendly competition;
and
d.
identify the winning campus journalists and coaches who shall represent the
Division
in the 2018 RSPC.
4. Each
school participant is required to submit upon registration a copy of the latest
issue of the school newsletter/school
paper.
5.
Participants to this activity are the elementary and secondary campus writers,
school paper advisers, and other
individuals concerned.
6.
Further, participants are advised to bring the following materials/ equipment
for
the
identified events:
a. Scriptwriting and
Radio
Broadcasting
b. Photojournalism
– At least
3 laptops, chargers, printer, bond papers,
ink, and
extension wires
– Laptop, empty storage/memory card, digital
camera
(point and shoot) with a maximum of 16
megapixels, extension wires
c. Collaborative/ Desktop Publishing
-3 laptops, chargers, printer, pocket wifis, extension wires
7. Activities in the 2018 DESSPC are the following:
a. Individual Contests
– News Writing
– Feature Writing
– Editoial Cartooning
– Photojournalism
– Editoial Writing
– Spots Writing
– Science Development Writing
– Copy Reading and Headline Writing
b. Group Contests
– Scriptwriting and Radio Broadcasting
– Collaborative/Desktop Publishing
– TV Broadcasting (High School Only)
c. Adviser’s Contest – Teachers’ Got Talent/Extemporaneous Speaking
d. Journalism Quiz Bee/ Tagisan ng Talino
e. Search
for the Most Outstanding School Paper Advisers (SPA) and Campus
Writers
(CW)- Elementary and Secondary Levels
f. Election of DAESPA and DASSPA Officers
g. Election of Campus Journalists’ Guilds
h. Closing Program and Awarding of Winners
8. Any contestant may join a maximum of two contests of the same medium (Ex. News Writing English and Photojournalism English) provided that no conflict of schedule arises.
9. The guidelines and criteria for judging of the different contests shall be based on the guidelines used in the 2017 NSPC.
10. Applicants for the Search tor the 2018 Outstanding Division Elementary and Secondary Campus Journalists and School Paper Advisers may submit their pertinent documents to the Office thru Mrs. Paulina D. Gabon, EPS1 (English) or Mrs. Florita L. Lee, EPS1 (Filipino) on or before October 12, 2018.
Please see attached criteria.
11. A registration fee of PhP 200.00 will be collected from each campus writer and school paper adviser to cover the expenses incurred relative to the conduct of the 2018 Division Elementary and Secondary Schools Press Conference (DESSPC). The registration, traveling/transport, meals/snacks, and other incidental expenses incurred by the participants relative to the activity shall be charged against school MOOE/ Campus Journalism and other local fund sources subject to the usual accounting rules and regulations.
12. Immediate dissemination of and compliance with this Memorandum are desired.
