DIRECTIONS/INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE 2017 – 2018 SCHOOL YEAR-END ACTIVITIES
TO: Chief Education Supervisors

Elementary and Secondary School Heads All others concerned
1. In view of the forthcoming closure of School Year 2017 – 2018, this office hereby issues the
following directions/instructions on the school year- end activities particularly on the number of school days, the conduct of graduation, moving up/completion ceremonies, checking of pupils/students’ progress records and preparation of souvenir programs.
2. School Year 2017 – 2018 started Monday,
June 5, 2017 and will end on Friday, April 6, 2018. The
total
number of school days is 204. Inclusive of the 5 – day In – service training
(INSET) break and
the
parent – teacher conference every quarter. However, learners are expected to be
in
school
for a total of 195 class days. The number of school days for each month of the
school
year
2017 – 2018 is as follows:

3. The fourth peiodical test for Grade VI and Grade 12 shall be on March 15 -16,2018 while those
of non – graduating (Grades I – V and Grade VII – XI) learners shall be on March 19-20, 2018. Division checking of DepED Forms and graduation programs of graduating learners Grade 11 Completers by the respective area supervisors will be on March 26 – 28, 2018 and April 2-3, 2018.
4. Graduation, Moving up/Completion Ceremonies for both Elementary and Secondary should
be scheduled not earlier than April 2, 2018 but not later than April 6,2018.
5. It must be conducted in an appropiate solemn ceremony befitting the pupils/students and
their parents and shall not in a way be used as a venue for political forum.
6. During the Recognition, Graduation, Moving up/Completion program, the School Head is
required to make a State of the School Address (SOSA) where he/she shall reveal the
accomplishments made by the school for the school year 2017 – 2018 as well as its aspirations, plans and commitments for the coming school year.
7. The theme for the 2018 Ceremonies shall be:
“Mag-aaral ng K to 12: Handa sa Hamon ng
Buhay” (K to 12 Learners: Ready to Face Lifes
Challenges)

In line with the Government’s austerity program, the Department of Education (DepED) reiterates its graduation rites policy as contained in DepED Order no. 06, 2018 to wit:
a.Graduation rites should be simple but
meaningful affairs which encourage civil rights, a
sense
of community, and personal responsibility. While these rites mark a milestone
in the
life
of the learners, these should be conducted without excessive spending,
extravagant
attire,
or extraordinary venue;
Moving up or Closing ceremonies should be simple, involving only the learners, their parents, and the school; and
Non-academic projects such as attendance to field tips, film showing, junior – senior promenade and other school events should not be imposed as requirements for graduation, moving up or completion.

d. Expenses relative to the activity should be charged to the School Maintenance and Other
Operating Expenses under the 2018 budget;
e. Any DepED personnel should not be allowed to collect any graduation/moving up/closing
ceremony fees or any kind of contribution; and
Contribution for the annual yearbook, if any, should be on voluntary basis.
9. Use
of enclosed completion certificate and dimploma templates:
For pivate elementary and secondary
schools, technical and vocational
institutions (TVIs),
and higher education
institutions (HEIs) including state
universities and colleges (SUCs) and
local universities and colleges (LUCs)
For public
elementary and secondary schools.
The use of
the enclosed completion certificate and
diploma templates is optional. The
signature of the school head is required,
while the signature of the schools division
superintendent is not required.

10. As a matter of practice, this office recommends that
speakers in recognition programs and
graduation exercises may be from successful
alumni who can serve as inspiration to pupils and
students or those coming from the DepED.

6,2018 as stipulated in DepED Order no.
25, s. 2017.
12. The following shall be the parts of the program for the Graduation and Closing Exercises:
Grade 6 and Grade 12:
a.
Processional March – Candidates for Graduation, Parents, Teaching Staff,
Guests, Guest
Speaker
b. National Anthem
c. Invocation/Opening Prayer
d. Reading of Messages (Optional)
e. Presentation of Candidates for Graduation
f. Confirmation of Candidates for Graduation by SDS or his Authorized Representative
g. Introduction of the Guest Speaker
h. Message of the Guest Speaker
i. Distribution of Certificates to Graduates
j. Awarding
of Medals/Ribbons to Honor Graduates

i. Awarding of Medals/Ribbons to Honor Students
j. Giving Special Awards to Deserving Stakeholders
k. Closing Remarks
13. The manner of conducting the moving up/completion activity shall be followed to wit:
a. All members of the class wearing ribbons
labeled Completers (Kinder) and promoted for
Grades 1 to Grade 11 shall be made
to go up the stage by group to receive their report
card accompanied by their parents
who shall at once leave the stage; and
b. Once all the groups of the class have
received the report card, the class honors will be
called
to step forward to receive their awards with their parents. After which the
official list
of the pupils promoted will be
turned-over to the adviser of the next higher grade;
14. Awarding of honors to learners from Grades 1 to 12 shall follow the guidelines stipulated in DO
36, s. 2016 entitled Policy Guidelines on Awards and Recognition for K to 12 Basic Education Program.
15. Immediate and wide dissemination of this Memorandum is desired.
