SUBJECT 2018 ARTS MONTH CELEBRATION

1 Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 683, entitled Declaring the Month of February
of Every Year as National Arts Month, the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) in cooperation with DepEd Catbalogan City Division and Samar Island Heritage Center announce the celebration of the 2018 National Arts Month (NAM) this February
2018 which will showcase a Visayan-wide traditional music festival called “KINARAANDAAN”.
2. The celebration shall be composed of two phases:
Phase 1. A. Workshop on Ismayling ni Miling
(Junior & Senior High School and
University/College Level) on February 13, 2018 at Cocina de Cabral,
Catbalogan City.
B. Festival Performance on February 26, 2018
at Samar provincial Covered
Court, capitol Grounds, Catbalogan
City.
C. The identified participants to this workshop are as follows:

Phase 2. Monthlong Celebration of National
Arts Month ( Both Elementary and
Secondary Levels)
A monthlong celebration of the NAM shall be hosted by MAPEH from all
public and
pivate schools in the division, both Elementary and Secondary which will focus on the theme: Ani ng Sining: Tradisyon at
Inobasyon” from

The celebration aims to:
a. promote
the millennials’ engagement, awareness and appreciation of traditional
Visayan
Art music;
b. introduce to the Samar youth “Ismayling” as a traditional Samarnon musical-
dance form;
c. learn the elements of Ismayling in text, music and performance;
d. revisit and adapt the Ismayling form using contemporary issues affecting the youth
while maintaining its music and dance integrity;
e.
appreciate the value of preserving the Ismayling as a slowly vanishing
traditional
form as Samamon’s treasured heritage
asset; and
f. showcase Ismayling to the general public.
5. A registration fee of Seven Hundred Fifty Pesos (Php750.00) only shall be collected from
each participant to defray expenses for two
snacks (AM & PM) and one (1) lunch during the
workshop and the plaques and laurels during the Festival Performance and other
incidental expenses. However, transport/traveling and other expenses incurred
by the participants relative to the conduct of the activity shall be charged
against School
MOOE and other local funds subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules
and regulations.
6. The sayawit presentation shall be presented during their culminating activity with
20-25 participants and in Waray-waray songs of your choice and shall be performed for
5-7 minutes.
4. Immediate dissemination of this memorandum is desired.
