SUBJECT: CONDUCT OF THE 2018 DIVISION READ-A-THON FESTIVAL OF TALENT

DATE:             November?, 2018

1.   In support to the institutionalized “Every-Child-A-Reader Program” (ECARP), the Office

through the Curiculum Implementation Division (CID) shall spearhead the Conduct of the 2018 Division Read-A-Thon Fesival of Talent (English and Filipino) on November 28,2018, Friday at Catbalogan III Central Elementary School.

2.    The activity aims to:

a. showcase the talents/skills of the grades 1 to 3 pupils relative to the different contests
      identified;

b. benchmark the strengths and weaknesses of schools/district vis-d-vis the performance of
     their pupils In the different contests; and

c. encourage pimary grades teachers to ensure the development of the reading skills of
     their learners.

3.  The contest is open to Grades 1,2, and 3 pupils who have won in the district level competitions

in the following contest events:

A. Story Telling

–     There will be one (1) contestant per grade level from Grades 1 to 3 per distict

for English and Filipino respectively. They will stay in a holding room while their advisers wait outside.

–     The contestants will read for an hour the selection that will be provided by the

Office.

–     Once the allotted time is up, the selections will be retrieved from the

contestant who will wait for their time to deliver.

The order of presentation/delivery will be drawn by lots.

–     They will be rated by a board of judges based on the citeria.

–     The contestants who get the highest number of points will be declared winners.

B. Oral Interpretation/Oral Reading

–     There will be one (1) contestant per grade level from Grades 1 to 3 per distict

for English and Filipino respectively. They will stay in a holding room minus their advisers.

–     The contestants will be asked to read aloud a story from a story book that will

be provided by the Office.

– The order of presentation/delivery will be drawn by lots.

–     They will be rated by a board of judges based on the criteia.

– The contestants who get the highest number of points will be declared winners.

C. Team Reader

– Each district shall send a three-member team each for Grades 1,2, and 3 for
     English and Filipino respectively.

– The team will be given 10 minutes to read silently the selection provided by the
     Office.

– Once the allotted time is up, they will answer the comprehension questions

that will be read to them orally. The teams will answer within 10 seconds and at a given time flash the same.

– The teams with the highest number of points will be declared winners.

D. Declamation

–     There will be one (1) contestant per grade level from Grades 1 to 3 per district

for English and Filipino respectively.

The order of presentation/delivery will be drawn by lots.

E. Spelling

There will be one (1) contestant per grade level from Grades 1 to 3 per district . for English and Filipino respectively.

–     The contestants will be made to go through the Easy, Average, and Difficult

rounds with corresponding points as follows:

Easy – 1 pt.       Average – 2 pts.           Difficult – 3 pts.

The points will be added and the contestants who get the highest number of points will be declared winners.

4.      No registration fee shall be collected from the participants. Thus, snacks, meals, and travel

expenses of pupil-contestants and their teacher-advisers shall be by self-provision.

5.    Traveling and other incidental expenses incurred by the pupils and their teacher-advisers

relative to. the attendance in the said activity are chargeable against local/school/MOOE funds subject to the usual accounting rules and regulations.

6.      Immediate dissemination of and compliance with this Memorandum is highly desired.
